Governor Jonathan Bii Leads Joint Rescue Efforts in Chesongoch Landslide Tragedy

Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii today joined a multi-agency rescue operation in Chesongoch, Elgeyo Marakwet County, following a devastating landslide that has left several families displaced and communities in distress.

Governor Bii, alongside Elgeyo Marakwet Governor Wisley Rotich, Nandi Governor Stephen Sang, and Cabinet Secretaries Kipchumba Murkomen (Interior) and Geoffrey Ruku (Special Programs), led a coordinated response effort to support the victims and restore access to affected areas.

Speaking at the scene, Governor Bii expressed solidarity with the victims and commended the rapid response by national and county agencies.

“We are working around the clock with both local and national teams to ensure that no one is left behind. Every life matters, and our priority is to reach all affected families with food, medical supplies, and other essential support,” said Bii.

He noted that heavy machinery has been deployed to clear blocked roads, allowing emergency teams to reach remote villages that had been cut off by the landslide. Humanitarian agencies and local volunteers are also on the ground, distributing relief items and offering psychosocial support to survivors.

Governor Bii called upon Kenyans to come together in solidarity during this difficult period.

“Let us all support our brothers and sisters in Elgeyo Marakwet. Every hand, every act of kindness counts. Together, we can help them rebuild their lives,” he urged.
