Dr. Chris Kiptoo Mourns Victims of Tragic Landslide in Uasin Gishu, Commends Rescue Efforts

Principal Secretary for the National Treasury, Dr. Chris Kiptoo, has expressed deep sorrow following the devastating landslide tragedy that has claimed 21 lives and left more than 30 people missing in Uasin Gishu County.

Speaking after joining Cabinet Secretary for Roads and Transport, Hon. Onesimus Kipchumba Murkomen, and other leaders at the Eldoret Airstrip to receive the bodies of the victims, Dr. Kiptoo described the incident as “one of the saddest moments” for the county and the nation at large.

“Our hearts go out to the families affected by this devastating tragedy. We mourn with them and continue to hold them in our prayers during this extremely difficult time,” said Dr. Kiptoo.

He noted that the Government is working tirelessly to coordinate rescue operations, provide humanitarian assistance, and support families that have been displaced or affected by the disaster. Teams comprising the Kenya Red Cross, National Youth Service (NYS), Kenya Defence Forces (KDF), and other emergency responders remain on the ground to assist in recovery efforts.

Later, Dr. Kiptoo visited patients admitted at the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) in Eldoret to check on their progress and convey messages of hope and solidarity. He commended the hospital’s medical team, led by Dr. Phillip Kirwa, for their swift and professional response to the emergency.

“I sincerely thank Dr. Kirwa and the entire MTRH team, as well as all hospitals, first responders, and volunteers who have shown great courage and compassion in saving lives and providing care to the injured,” he added.

Dr. Kiptoo called upon Kenyans to stand united in compassion and prayer for the bereaved families and the brave men and women on the frontlines of the rescue operations.

“This tragedy reminds us of the power of unity and collective action. Let us continue to support one another as we rebuild and recover,” he said.
