CS Kipchumba Murkomen Condoles with Families of Chesongoch Landslide Victims

Cabinet Secretary for Interior and National Administration, Kipchumba Murkomen, has conveyed his deepest sympathies to families affected by the deadly landslide that struck Chesongoch, Marakwet East, on Friday night, claiming several lives and leaving others injured and displaced.

Speaking during a visit to the affected area on Saturday, CS Murkomen said the government is working closely with local leaders, humanitarian agencies, and security teams to coordinate ongoing search and rescue operations and facilitate the repair of access roads that were destroyed by the landslide.

> “We have arrived in Chesongoch to condole with the families who lost loved ones in this tragedy. Our hearts go out to them during this difficult time,” said Murkomen. “We are also assessing the humanitarian situation and joining hands with all agencies involved in the rescue and recovery efforts.”

The CS assured residents that the national and county governments are mobilizing resources to support the affected families and to restore essential services in the area. He also wished a quick recovery to all those who sustained injuries and commended the community for their swift response and cooperation with rescue teams.

> “We stand in solidarity with the people of Marakwet East. The government will continue to provide assistance to ensure that all those affected receive the necessary support,” he added.

Heavy rains in the region over the past week have triggered multiple landslides and flash floods, leaving a trail of destruction in parts of Elgeyo Marakwet County.

Authorities have urged residents living in landslide-prone areas to remain vigilant and heed evacuation advisories issued by local disaster management officials.
