Kenya’s premier cross country event, the Chepsaita Cross Country Race, is set to make history this year, with organizers expecting up to 10,000 athletes to take part. Already, more than 8,000 runners are registered, including 1,600 elite athletes and thousands of juniors, positioning Chepsaita as one of the largest cross country events in the world.

Speaking to the media, Barnaba Korir, CEO of Chepsaita, highlighted that the race is far more than just a sporting event. “Chepsaita isn’t just a competition. It’s a movement for sport, education, and community development,” Korir said.

The race supports 20 sponsored schools, each receiving Ksh. 1 million to assist 100 students. Beyond athletics, the program has helped improve education infrastructure, roads, electricity, water supply, and even medical camps in participating communities.

Chepsaita is also nurturing the next generation of global champions. With 57 junior training camps nationwide and clear pathways connecting school athletes to NCAA programs, international universities, and global competitions, the race is building opportunities for young Kenyan runners to reach the world stage.

Korir emphasized that Chepsaita leaves a lasting impact long after the race ends. “Every year, the Chepsaita movement transforms lives, strengthens communities, and helps shape the future of athletics in Kenya and beyond,” he said.

The event promises thrilling competition, inspiring stories, and a continued legacy of community empowerment, cementing Chepsaita’s position as a key platform for athletes and communities alike.
