The Eldoret National Polytechnic (TENP) has expressed its deep sorrow following the passing of former Kenyan Prime Minister Raila Odinga, who was confirmed dead early this morning while receiving medical treatment in India.

The announcement was made by TENP Chief Principal, Dr. Charles Koech, OGW, during the official opening of the institution’s 14th Annual International Conference, Skills Competition, Innovations, and Expo (CIRIS 2025). Speaking to staff, students, and invited guests, Dr. Koech described the late Odinga as a distinguished statesman and a national icon in the pursuit of democracy.

“Being a statesman, I know this country has lost someone who was very important, especially in the fight for democracy. We send our deepest condolences to the family,” said Dr. Koech.

Raila Odinga, who rose to become Kenya’s first Prime Minister in the aftermath of the 2007/2008 post-election crisis, was a towering political figure known for his unwavering dedication to justice, national unity, and constitutional reform. His political career spanned decades, during which he was imprisoned, exiled, and celebrated for his resilience and patriotism.

In his address, Dr. Koech emphasized the importance of remembering Odinga’s legacy, not only as a political leader but also as a symbol of perseverance and hope for future generations.

“As an academic institution, we encourage young people to emulate his spirit of service, courage, and commitment to a better Kenya,” he added.

The Eldoret National Polytechnic joins fellow institutions, leaders, and citizens across the country in mourning the loss of a leader who helped shape modern Kenya. The institution conveyed heartfelt condolences to the Odinga family, friends, and the nation at large.
