Stolen in Uganda, Found in Kenya: Toyota Premio Recovered in Dramatic Police Raid

A stolen Ugandan-registered Toyota Premio has been successfully recovered in Banda Village, Bungoma County, following swift action by officers from Bungoma South Sub-County.

The vehicle, bearing Ugandan registration number UAT 403V, was reported stolen from Jinja Town in Uganda. Acting on a tip-off from members of the public, local police officers responded promptly to intelligence that the car had been sighted at a homestead in Banda.

Upon arrival, officers found the vehicle at the location and confirmed it had been tampered with—its number plate had been altered to KAZ 629J, a Kenyan registration. Despite the attempted disguise, the rightful owner positively identified the car.

The suspect found in possession of the vehicle was taken into custody and is currently awaiting processing and arraignment in court. The recovered vehicle was towed to the local police station for further investigations.

In a statement, the National Police Service commended the public for the crucial role they played in the recovery through timely and reliable intelligence.

“We appreciate the vigilance and cooperation of the public in this case. Their support continues to be vital in the fight against cross-border and local crimes,” the statement read.

The public is further encouraged to report any suspicious activities by contacting the police through emergency lines 999, 911, 112, or via the #FichuaKwaDCI platform using the toll-free number 0800 722 203 or WhatsApp at 0709 570 000.
