Security Agencies Recover Stolen Livestock in Marsabit County
In a successful joint operation, police officers from Samburu North Sub-County, in collaboration with National Police Reservists (NPR), National Government Administration Officers (NGAOs), and local community members, have recovered 24 goats that had been stolen from Munanda Village.
The livestock was traced and retrieved in Seren Village, Marsabit County, following a swift and coordinated response by the multi-agency security team. The operation, which was launched shortly after the theft was reported, demonstrates the effectiveness of community-led intelligence and inter-agency cooperation in tackling livestock theft — a persistent challenge in northern Kenya.
According to police, the recovered goats were positively identified and have since been returned to their rightful owner in Munanda.
"The National Police Service commends the joint efforts of our officers, the NPRs, administration officers, and local residents who worked together to ensure the livestock was recovered and justice served," read a statement from the National Police Service.
Authorities emphasized that such partnerships are key to boosting security and reducing incidences of cattle rustling and livestock-related conflict in the region. They encouraged continued cooperation from the public and reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining peace and protecting livelihoods in pastoralist communities.
"This recovery is a testament to what can be achieved when communities and law enforcement work hand-in-hand," the statement added.
Local leaders have also praised the operation, calling it a confidence-boosting step in securing pastoralist areas where livestock is a primary source of livelihood.
