Raila Odinga's Body Arrives At Opoda Farm in Siaya County
The body of the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga has arrived at his Opoda Farm home in Bondo, Siaya County, ahead of his final send-off.
A military chopper carrying the body touched down a few minutes past 3:00 p.m., shortly after a public viewing was held at Mamboleo Stadium in Kisumu. The somber procession marks the beginning of a series of events planned to honor the life and legacy of the veteran opposition leader.
According to the funeral programme released by the Funeral Steering Committee, an overnight vigil will be held at the family home, accompanied by commendation prayers led by the Anglican Church of Kenya (ACK).
Family members, led by Raila’s wife Ida Odinga and his elder brother Dr. Oburu Oginga, have appealed for calm and peaceful conduct from supporters and mourners as the nation prepares for his final rites.
The state funeral service is scheduled for Sunday, 19th October, and will take place at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology (JOOUST) grounds. Guests, family members, and dignitaries are expected to begin arriving from 7:00 a.m.
The late Raila Odinga, a towering figure in Kenya’s political landscape, will be laid to rest with full honors in a ceremony that is expected to draw local and international attention.
