During the Mazingira Day celebrations held on October 10th at Kaptuktuk Primary School, Kesses Member of Parliament CPA Julius Ruto was approached by a distressed resident, Mama Faith Chemeli Chepkwony from Mugundoi, Cheptiret, who shared the plight of her daughter, Frenda Chelangat.
Frenda, who had travelled to Saudi Arabia in search of better employment opportunities, is now reportedly facing severe hardship abroad. According to Mama Faith, her daughter has been denied her rightful salary and is enduring difficult and inhumane working conditions.
In a swift response to the matter, MP Julius Ruto has formally written to Dr. Korir Sing’oei, the Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs, seeking immediate intervention.
“I have taken this matter seriously and have requested the Ministry’s urgent attention to ensure Frenda’s safety and facilitate her safe return home,” the MP stated. “I will be meeting with the PS personally tomorrow to follow up on the case.”
The MP emphasized the importance of safeguarding the rights of Kenyans working abroad, noting that every citizen deserves dignity, fair treatment, and the protection of their government.
“My office remains committed to pursuing every available channel to ensure Frenda’s safe repatriation and to highlight the broader issue affecting many of our young people abroad,” said CPA Ruto.
The legislator reaffirmed his commitment to advocating for Kenyans in the diaspora, calling for strengthened oversight and support mechanisms to protect migrant workers.
Frenda’s case adds to growing concerns about the treatment of Kenyan domestic workers in Gulf countries, sparking renewed calls for bilateral agreements to be enforced and monitored more effectively.
