KANU Chairman Gideon Moi Pays Tribute to the Late Rt. Hon. Raila Odinga

KANU Chairman Gideon Moi has paid a heartfelt tribute to the late Rt. Hon. Raila Amolo Odinga, describing him as a towering statesman whose lifelong dedication to democracy, justice, and national unity left an indelible mark on Kenya and the African continent.

Speaking after visiting the Odinga family to convey his condolences, Senator Moi said he was deeply moved by the loss of a leader who not only shaped Kenya’s political landscape but also inspired generations with his courage, resilience, and unwavering commitment to public service.

“We honor the life, times, and memories that we shared with the Rt. Hon. Raila Odinga,” said Mr. Moi. “Even as he rests, we continue to condole with his family and assure them that they are in our thoughts and prayers.”

The KANU Chairman was accompanied by former President of Ghana, H.E. Nana Akufo-Addo, as they joined family, friends, and dignitaries to pay their last respects to the Odinga family, led by Mama Ida Betty Odinga. The two leaders commended the late Raila Odinga for his instrumental role in strengthening Pan-African solidarity and fostering unity across political divides.

Mr. Moi noted that Raila Odinga’s leadership transcended politics, emphasizing his role as a symbol of hope and perseverance for many Africans who continue to strive for inclusive governance and equitable development.

“Raila Odinga’s legacy will forever remind us of the power of sacrifice and conviction. He stood firm for democracy, endured adversity, and never wavered in his belief that Kenya could rise above division and injustice,” Mr. Moi stated.

He further praised Mama Ida Odinga for her strength and steadfastness throughout her husband’s public life, describing her as a pillar of support and an embodiment of grace and endurance.

“Mama Ida’s strength in this moment reflects the deep bond and shared vision she had with her husband. On behalf of the KANU family and my own family, I extend our deepest condolences to her and the entire Odinga family,” he added.

Gideon Moi concluded by calling on Kenyans to honor Raila Odinga’s memory through unity, peace, and continued pursuit of the ideals he championed throughout his life.

“As a nation, we owe it to him to continue building the Kenya he envisioned — a just, democratic, and prosperous country for all,” he said.

The passing of the Rt. Hon. Raila Odinga has drawn tributes from across the world, with leaders describing him as one of Africa’s foremost champions of democracy, social justice, and good governance.
