Kalonzo Musyoka Pays Emotional Tribute to Late Raila Odinga: "A Titan Has Fallen"
Wiper Democratic Movement party leader H.E. Kalonzo Musyoka has delivered a heartfelt tribute to the late Rt. Hon. Raila Amolo Odinga, Kenya's Second Prime Minister, who was laid to rest today in a moving ceremony attended by thousands of mourners, dignitaries, and heads of state.
In a solemn address during the state funeral service, Kalonzo Musyoka described Raila as not only a brother-in-arms in Kenya's long struggle for democracy but also a personal friend whose absence leaves an irreplaceable void in the soul of the nation.
“Today, we lay to rest a titan—a freedom fighter, a statesman, and a patriot whose name is forever etched in the history of our Republic,” Kalonzo said, his voice heavy with emotion. “No words can truly capture the weight of this moment. Kenya mourns, Africa mourns, and indeed the world mourns.”
The two leaders shared decades of political partnership and mutual respect, particularly through their work in the opposition and the formation of coalitions such as NASA and Azimio la Umoja. Kalonzo emphasized Raila's indomitable spirit and unwavering commitment to social justice, electoral reform, and national unity.
“Raila Odinga was not just a politician—he was a symbol of resilience. He bore the scars of torture, detention, and betrayal, but never gave up on Kenya. He dreamed of a just, equal society, and to that vision, he gave his life,” Kalonzo added.
Calling on Kenyans to uphold Raila’s legacy, Kalonzo urged the nation to remain united and committed to the ideals the late leader championed.
“As we say our final goodbye, I pray that his legacy continues to light the path for generations to come. Let us not allow division to tarnish the great dream he fought for. Let us walk together—as one people, one nation—towards the Kenya he envisioned.”
The funeral service, held in Raila's hometown of Bondo, Siaya County, brought together an array of leaders, including President William Ruto, former President Uhuru Kenyatta, and international dignitaries, all honoring a man widely regarded as the father of Kenya's second liberation.
As the casket was lowered, a hush fell over the crowd—a moment of collective grief, reflection, and reverence for a life defined by courage, sacrifice, and enduring hope.
Raila Odinga is survived by his wife Ida Odinga, children, and grandchildren. He was 80.
