Government Deepens Development and Security Efforts in Kerio Valley, Says CS Kipchumba Murkomen

The government has intensified infrastructural and security interventions in the Kerio Valley region to enhance connectivity, boost economic growth, and consolidate peace, Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has said.

Speaking during a development tour of Baringo County alongside President William Samoei Ruto, CS Murkomen said the ongoing projects reflect the administration’s commitment to equitable development and lasting stability in historically marginalized areas.

During the visit, President Ruto laid the foundation stone for the Marigat Affordable Housing Programme, inspected the Marigat–Mochongoi Road, and commissioned the construction of the Kasoyo–Kampi Samaki Road, initiatives that will improve accessibility, stimulate trade, and open up economic opportunities for local residents.

“The infrastructural development we are witnessing is central to our mission of securing the Kerio Valley, enhancing regional connectivity, and unlocking socio-economic potential,” Murkomen said.

He noted that significant progress has been achieved in restoring peace and stability through President Ruto’s strategic investment in the security sector, with 602 illegal firearms voluntarily surrendered following the government’s amnesty and outreach to local communities.

“We call upon all those still holding illegal firearms to take advantage of this window and surrender them. Our security agencies will continue with targeted, intelligence-led operations until every illegal weapon is recovered and the region is fully secure,” the CS affirmed.

To ensure sustainable peace, Murkomen announced the rollout of empowerment programmes targeting both reformed bandits and victims of insecurity, aimed at rebuilding livelihoods and fostering social cohesion.

In addition, the government has launched Usajili Mashinani, a mobile ID registration initiative in Baringo and other underserved counties, designed to address historical disparities in access to national documentation and government services.

“The Usajili Mashinani programme ensures that no Kenyan is left behind. Every citizen deserves the opportunity to participate fully in our country’s transformation,” Murkomen said.

He reiterated that the government remains steadfast in pursuing peace, development, and inclusivity in all parts of the country, adding that the achievements in Baringo demonstrate what can be accomplished through unity, dialogue, and sustained investment.
