From Rejection to Riches: Woman Credits Spiritual Revelation

 

For years, Caroline Njeri, a small businesswoman from Nakuru, knew what rejection felt like. She had knocked on every bank door you could think of  Equity, KCB, Family, even small SACCOs but all she ever heard was the same cold line: “Unfortunately, your loan request has not been approved.”

Caroline had a small mitumba business in Wakulima Market. She started with only Ksh 10,000, selling women’s jeans and handbags. But like most hustlers, her dream was bigger, to open a boutique and import bales directly from Turkey. The only thing standing between her and that dream was capital.

“Every bank said no. They said my statement was weak, that my income was too small. But how was I supposed to grow without help?” she recalls.

 

For a while, she gave up. Bills piled up. Her landlord started threatening to lock the stall. She even considered moving back to her parents’ home in Nyandarua. Life had cornered her.
