Final Farewell Plans For Raila Odinga Enter Homestretch at Opada Farm
Preparations for the final farewell of the late Rt. Hon. Raila Amolo Odinga have entered their final stages, with top government officials and the funeral committee convening at his rural home in Opoda Farm, Bondo Constituency, on Saturday morning.
Eliud Owalo, Cabinet Secretary in charge of Delivery and Government Efficiency in the Executive Office of the President, joined the organizing team in overseeing logistical and ceremonial arrangements ahead of the highly anticipated national send-off.
Speaking from the farm, Owalo described the occasion as “a deeply emotional but necessary moment of unity for the nation,” noting that all systems were being fine-tuned to ensure a dignified and seamless farewell for the former Prime Minister.
“This morning, I joined the funeral committee at the late Rt. Hon. Raila Amolo Odinga’s Opoda Farm in the final leg of ongoing preparations for his farewell,” Owalo said. “May God comfort Baba’s family and the entire nation as we unite to give him the dignified send-off he so richly deserves.”
Odinga, a towering figure in Kenyan politics for over four decades, passed away earlier this month, prompting an outpouring of tributes from across the country and beyond. Known affectionately as “Baba,” he is remembered for his role in the struggle for multiparty democracy, social justice, and national reconciliation.
Government officials, clergy, and representatives from various sectors are expected to be part of the multi-day farewell ceremonies, culminating in a burial at his ancestral home. Security, transport, and public access logistics are also being carefully coordinated to accommodate the thousands expected to attend.
Sources close to the planning team confirmed that the state is working closely with the Odinga family to ensure that cultural traditions, national protocol, and the wishes of the family are fully respected.
As Kenya prepares to bid goodbye to one of its most influential sons, the mood in Bondo and across the country remains solemn, with calls for unity and reflection on the values that Raila Odinga championed throughout his life.
