Elgeyo Marakwet Shines as Five Teachers to Be Honoured at World Teachers’ Day National Celebrations
In a proud moment for Elgeyo Marakwet County, five outstanding educators from the region will be recognized and celebrated today at Kasarani Stadium during the World Teachers’ Day national celebrations.
The event, which brings together educators from across the country, will honour exceptional contributions in sports, environmental conservation, special needs education, and child protection.
Among those being celebrated is Viola Barsulai of Kamariny Primary School, who has received international recognition for her impactful “Don’t Touch Campaign”, a child protection initiative that educates and empowers minors to speak out against molestation and sexual abuse.
"From Kamariny to the world – I never imagined this journey would lead to global recognition," said Barsulai, reflecting on her nomination. “This is a moment of gratitude – to God, my family, colleagues, and the community that has stood by me.”
The Elgeyo Marakwet Five:
1️⃣ John Chebore Kimitei – Kobil Special School

2️⃣ Jane Kiptoo – Kombatich Primary School

5️⃣ Reuben Kirwa – Tambach Boys High School

This year’s theme, “The Teachers We Need for the Education We Want,” places a spotlight on educators who go above and beyond to inspire, protect, and uplift learners.
The recognition of these five heroes underscores the critical role teachers continue to play not only in academic success, but also in shaping safe, healthy, and socially conscious communities.
As Kasarani prepares to host dignitaries, education stakeholders, and honorees from across the country, the pride of Elgeyo Marakwet runs high.
“To be named among national champions is no small feat. It is a blessing I carry with humility, and I dedicate this honour to every teacher working silently and selflessly in our villages and classrooms,” Barsulai added.
“Truly – Ni God!”
With cheers, celebration, and hope in the air, today marks not just a personal milestone for the five educators, but a reminder of the transformative power of teaching – when driven by passion, purpose, and faith.
