Under the leadership of Chief Executive Officer, Ms. Evelyn Kimathi, Dedan Kimathi foundation today joined learners, teachers, and community members at Siwot Primary School, Keringet, to commemorate Mazingira Day,a national celebration dedicated to environmental conservation and sustainability.
In this the activity, the Foundation planted 120 Hass avocado seedlings within the school compound. This greening initiative not only contributes to environmental restoration but also promotes food security and nutrition for the learners. Over time, the avocado trees will serve as a sustainable source of fruit, enhance dietary health, and provide valuable agricultural learning opportunities for the students.
The day was coloured by Dr. Eng. Festus K. Ng’eno, Principal Secretary, State Department for Environment, as the Chief Guest, whose presence reaffirmed the government’s support for community-driven environmental initiatives.
The Hass avocado seedlings were donated jointly by the Dedan Kimathi Foundation and Isinya Roses Farm Porini Branch, a collaboration that underscores the power of partnerships in advancing Kenya’s green agenda.
“By planting fruit trees in schools, we are investing not only in the environment but also in the health, nutrition, and future of our children,” said Ms. Kimathi.
“Together, we can nurture a greener and more sustainable Kenya for generations to come.”
