CUE Conducts Inspection at Tambach Teachers Training College Ahead of Kerio Valley University College Establishment

 

 The Commission for University Education (CUE) today carried out an official inspection of Tambach Teachers Training College (TTC) as part of the ongoing process to establish Kerio Valley University College.

The CUE delegation, led by Dr. George Ariya, Programme Leader, assessed the college’s facilities to determine its readiness and compliance with the Commission’s requirements for a university college. The inspection is a critical step in the multi-stage process required for Tambach TTC to gain university college status.

The University of Eldoret, which will act as the mentor university, was represented by its Vice Chancellor, Prof. Thomas Cheruiyot. Under Kenya’s higher education framework, a mentor university provides guidance and technical oversight to a proposed university college.

To achieve university college status, the following steps are followed: submission of a request from the County Government to the mentor university, approval by the University Council, issuance of an acceptance letter to CUE, formation of a technical committee, preparation and submission of a detailed proposal, inspection by CUE, review of the technical report, issuance of an interim letter of authority, secondment of staff, and finally, the official launch of the college and admission of the first cohort of students.

During the inspection, the Elgeyo Marakwet County Government was represented by Deputy Governor Prof. Grace Cheserek, who led the county delegation. Other officials present included County Secretary Lazarus Chebii, CECM Lands Mr. Thomas Maiyo, Chief Officer Mr. Paul Rutto, and Director of Education Mr. Sammy Kipchumba.

The move to establish Kerio Valley University College is part of broader efforts by the county and higher education stakeholders to expand access to tertiary education in the region and enhance academic and research opportunities for local communities.
