CS Murkomen Bids Emotional Farewell to Raila Odinga: “A Valiant Son of Africa”
Cabinet Secretary for Interior and National Administration, Kipchumba Murkomen, has delivered a moving tribute to the late Raila Amolo Odinga, hailing the fallen opposition leader as a “valiant son of Africa” and “a giant whose footprints will remain etched in the soul of the nation.”
In his farewell message issued today during a memorial service held at Uhuru Gardens in Nairobi, CS Murkomen struck a unifying tone despite their political differences, choosing instead to focus on Raila Odinga’s towering legacy and unmatched contribution to Kenya’s democratic journey.“The sun has set on a valiant son of Africa. Though our hearts be heavy, on the morn the sun will rise to light the splendour of your lifelong deeds,” said Murkomen, reading from a handwritten note titled Fare Thee Well, Baba.
The poetic tribute, which moved many in attendance, praised Raila’s decades of struggle for democracy, justice, and national unity — often at great personal cost.
“We will water the tree, the birds will spread the seed. We are evermore glad you lived in our midst,” Murkomen read, pausing briefly as the crowd responded with quiet applause.
From Political Rivalry to National Reverence
Known in political circles for his vocal criticisms of the opposition leader during his active years in politics, CS Murkomen's heartfelt message was seen as a rare moment of national solidarity and maturity.
“So long, Baba. Till we meet again in the land yonder — fare thee well,” he concluded, his voice steady but somber.
The message was widely shared on social media and praised by Kenyans across the political divide, with many urging leaders to carry forward Raila’s vision of a just, inclusive, and democratic Kenya.
