Kenya’s digital and entertainment community is reeling from the sudden death of popular X influencer Sam Arum, whose passing was confirmed just hours after the burial of ODM leader Raila Odinga. The news, shared by family member Nick Yewa, left many in shock, with tributes pouring in from across the country.
Among the first to express their grief were media personalities Maina Kageni, Massawe Japanni, and actress Jacky Vike, popularly known as Awinja. Their heartfelt messages on social media captured the depth of loss felt by many Kenyans who had come to admire Arum’s wit, activism, and online presence.
Maina Kageni, known for his candid takes on social issues, posted a somber tribute: “Sam was a voice of reason and humor in equal measure. Kenya has lost a bright spark.” Massawe Japanni, the Radio Jambo presenter, shared a black candle image with the caption, “Rest well, Sam. Your light touched many.” Awinja, beloved for her comedic roles, wrote, “It’s hard to believe. You made us laugh, think, and care. Fly high, Sam.”
Arum’s brother, John Arum, also shared a deeply emotional post, calling the loss “very painful” and posting a black-and-white photo from happier times.
Sam Arum had recently posted a tribute to Raila Odinga, making his own death feel eerily close to the national mourning that had already gripped the country. His passing has sparked conversations about mental health, grief, and the fragility of life in the public eye.
As Kenyans continue to mourn, the legacy of Sam Arum lives on in the digital footprints he left behind—tweets that inspired, challenged, and united a generation. His voice may be gone, but his impact remains indelible.
