Jimmy Wanjigi Takes Over Safina Party Leadership, Promises "Economic Revolution"

Businessman and political figure Jimmy Wanjigi has officially taken over the leadership of the Safina Party, succeeding Senior Counsel Paul Muite. The transition was formalised today during a Special National Delegates Conference (NDC) held in Nairobi.

Wanjigi, who has been a prominent voice in Kenya's political and economic discourse, praised Muite for his decades of service to the party and the nation. He hailed the outgoing leader as a “true champion of justice and integrity,” noting that his legacy of defending freedom and accountability will continue to guide the party’s vision.

“This is not just a handover of power, but a call to action,” Wanjigi said in his address to delegates. “Safina steps forward with one mission: an Economic Revolution.”

The new party leader outlined an ambitious plan to reorient Kenya’s political and economic direction, with a strong focus on wealth creation, equitable resource distribution, and structural reforms. According to Wanjigi, the current economic system has failed to deliver prosperity to the majority of Kenyans and must be overhauled.

“Too many Kenyans are trapped in a cycle of poverty and economic exclusion,” he said. “We are determined to disrupt that system. Our goal is to build an economy that works for the many, not the few.”

Wanjigi emphasized the need for transformative policies in agriculture, manufacturing, and technology, alongside land reforms and financial inclusion initiatives. He also pledged to champion transparency and accountability within both government institutions and political parties.

The Safina Party, formed in 1995 by Paul Muite and Dr. Richard Leakey, has been known for its advocacy of democratic principles and civil liberties. Wanjigi’s leadership is expected to inject new energy into the party as it repositions itself ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Political analysts say Wanjigi’s takeover marks a strategic shift for Safina, potentially attracting a new generation of voters disillusioned by the mainstream political establishment.

In his closing remarks, Wanjigi called on Kenyans — particularly youth and women — to rally behind Safina’s vision.

“This is the beginning of a national awakening,” he said. “Let the Economic Revolution begin.”
