Great Chepsaita Cross Country Run 2025 Officially Launched with Education Focus

The spirit of athletics and community transformation came alive in Chepsaita, Turbo Constituency, as the 3rd edition of the Great Chepsaita Cross Country Run was officially launched. The prestigious event, set for December 6, 2025, will run under the powerful theme: “Run for Education.”

Race Patron Hon. Farouk Kibet, who presided over the launch, said the cross country has evolved from a local sporting event into an international platform for both competition and social change.

“With this year’s theme, Run for Education, we aim to inspire change in society and create a lasting impact for generations to come. The 2025 edition will not only showcase world-class competition but also deepen its community impact by supporting educational initiatives in Chepsaita and surrounding areas,” said Kibet.

Race Growing in Prestige

Race CEO and Director Barnaba Korir confirmed that this year’s event has already secured Gold Label status, a recognition that places it among the elite races on the international athletics calendar.

“This year’s race is set to be bigger, better, and more impactful. We are focusing on talent development and promoting access to education through sport. As the event continues to grow in prestige, we anticipate participation from elite athletes, rising stars, and enthusiastic runners from across Kenya, the region, and beyond,” said Korir.

He added that the run will not only be a test of endurance for professional athletes but also a festival for the community, schools, and upcoming runners who view the event as a stepping stone into competitive athletics.

Chepsaita’s Legacy in Athletics

Chepsaita, located on the border of Uasin Gishu and Nandi counties, is widely recognized as a breeding ground for world-class athletes. The region has produced legendary names in distance running and continues to nurture young talent through grassroots competitions and training camps.

By hosting the annual Great Chepsaita Cross Country Run, the community has positioned itself as both a hub for athletics excellence and a driver of social development. The event has become a calendar highlight not just for athletics enthusiasts but also for education stakeholders and development partners.

Linking Sport to Education

Organizers highlighted that part of the proceeds from the 2025 race will go towards supporting educational programs in Chepsaita and its neighboring areas. These include scholarships for bright but needy students, improvement of school infrastructure, and mentorship programs that use sport to inspire academic success.

“The run is more than a race; it is a mission. We want to ensure that through athletics, children in our community can access better education, better opportunities, and a better future,” said Korir.

Looking Ahead

Since its inception, the Great Chepsaita Cross Country Run has attracted growing numbers of participants, from local school children to international stars, making it one of the fastest-rising athletic events in East Africa. The 2025 edition is expected to surpass previous years in terms of participation, competitiveness, and social impact.

Hon. Kibet lauded the event’s growth, noting that its success is proof of what community-driven initiatives can achieve. “Mark your calendars and be part of a run that goes beyond the finish line. This is a run for talent, a run for education, and a run for change,” he said.

As the countdown begins, Chepsaita is gearing up to welcome thousands of runners, fans, and visitors to what promises to be a landmark event blending athletics, community spirit, and the pursuit of a brighter future through education.
