PS Interior Raymond Omollo Applauds Eldoret National Polytechnic for Pioneering Digital Skills Training
The Eldoret National Polytechnic has been lauded by the Principal Secretary for Interior and National Administration, Dr. Raymond Omollo, for its exceptional role in equipping youth with digital skills and accelerating Kenya’s transformation into a digital economy.
Through his X account Dr. Omollo commended the Polytechnic’s leadership under Chief Principal Dr. Charles Koech, highlighting the institution as a shining example of what President William Ruto’s Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA) seeks to achieve through the Digital Superhighway initiative.
“The Eldoret National Polytechnic has become a national model for youth empowerment. What we are witnessing here is the digital economy in action — young Kenyans being trained, certified, and earning income within months. It is a remarkable achievement,” Dr. Omollo stated.
Since the opening of the Konza Digital Skills Laboratory in 2023, the Polytechnic has trained 17 cohorts of students — each averaging 95 learners — in a variety of digital skills including transcription, programming, data analytics, web design, and graphic design. The modern lab, equipped with 100 computers, is part of a broader effort to integrate young people into the digital workforce.
With a total student population of over 17,000, the institution has rapidly become a hub for digital skills training in the Rift Valley region and beyond. According to administrators, some graduates have reported earning up to $4,000 within just three months of completing their training by tapping into global online job platforms.
Dr. Omollo praised the Polytechnic’s partnerships with international tech companies and global certification bodies, which have provided students with a competitive edge in the job market.
“This is what a digitally empowered Kenya looks like. We are not only creating job opportunities, but also building resilient communities and unlocking the potential of our youth,” he added.
Chief Principal Dr. Charles Koech thanked the government for its continued support and reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to driving digital innovation and inclusive economic growth.
The Konza Digital Skills Laboratory was established under the broader government strategy to provide access to basic, intermediate, and advanced digital skills training across the country. It plays a key role in fulfilling the President’s vision of using technology as a driver for job creation, innovation, and national development.
