IG Kanja, CS Murkomen Lead 23rd Jukwaa La Usalama in Laikipia

 

Inspector General of Police (IG) Douglas Kanja on Thursday, July 31, joined Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen in Laikipia County for the 23rd edition of Jukwaa La Usalama, a nationwide security engagement forum.

The day-long meeting, held at the NG-CDF Social Hall in Nanyuki Township, brought together residents, local leaders, National Police Service (NPS) officers, and National Government Administration Officials (NGAO) to deliberate on pressing security concerns in the region.

The forum forms part of a joint mission by the Ministry of Interior and the IG’s office to visit all 47 counties, gathering first-hand feedback from citizens on safety challenges and strengthening community policing efforts.

Speaking during the session, IG Kanja commended security personnel operating in Laikipia for their dedication and urged them to uphold their commitment to protecting lives and property. He highlighted the government’s ongoing reforms, including Operation Maliza Uhalifu, which he said was making notable strides in combating crime and enhancing peace in the region.

Earlier in the day, CS Murkomen and IG Kanja paid a courtesy call on Laikipia Governor Joshua Irungu before engaging stakeholders at the forum.

The event was also attended by several leaders, including Laikipia East MP Mwangi Kiunjuri, Laikipia North MP Sarah Korere, Laikipia Woman Representative Jane Kagiri, Deputy Inspector General of the Administration Police Service Gilbert Masengeli, General Service Unit (GSU) Commandant Ranson Lolmodooni, Rift Valley Regional Police Commander Jasper Ombati, NPS Spokesperson Muchiri Nyaga, and Laikipia County Commissioner Onesmus Kyatha, among others.

The Jukwaa La Usalama initiative continues to serve as a platform for the government to engage directly with communities, address insecurity hotspots, and build collaborative approaches to sustaining law and order across the country.
