Corpse sits upright during burial and names man who poisoned him
Residents of Otonglo village in Kisumu were thrown into chaos and holy panic on Wednesday morning after a bizarre burial ceremony turned into a horrifying scene when the corpse of a man who died mysteriously allegedly sat upright inside the coffin and identified the person who poisoned him before collapsing again.
What had begun as a normal funeral procession quickly spiraled into confusion when mourners gathered around the grave and suddenly heard strange whimpering sounds coming from inside the wooden casket, leading some to scream, others to faint, and a few to run away in terror thinking the dead had refused to be buried.
According to eyewitnesses who included the assistant chief of the area, the body of thirty-nine-year-old Joash Odhiambo, who had died a week earlier after complaining of stomach pains and vomiting blood, was being lowered into the grave when the lid of the coffin mysteriously flipped open and the deceased allegedly raised his right hand and pointed directly at a man in the crowd while loudly mentioning his full name.
Shocked villagers watched as the accused man, a forty-three-year-old shopkeeper from the same village, fell to the ground in fear and begged for forgiveness while explaining that he had laced the victim’s alcohol with poison after a disagreement over unpaid debts from a land transaction that had gone sour two months earlier.
The burial was temporarily halted as police officers from Kondele Police Station were called to the scene and arrested the suspect who had already confessed before the public and had even offered to pay for the deceased’s hospital bills, something that raised eyebrows when he first volunteered weeks ago despite denying any involvement in his death. to read more click here
