Tim Wanyonyi Declares Gubernatorial Bid: "I Am Ready to Serve Bungoma"
Westlands MP Tim Wanyonyi has officially declared his bid for the Bungoma gubernatorial seat, marking a major political shift ahead of the 2027 General Election. In a passionate address delivered during a public gathering at Posta Grounds in Bungoma town, Wanyonyi pledged to steer the county toward a new era of development, unity, and accountability.
“I am ready to serve Bungoma. I am ready to be the pilot. Bungoma is ready to take off,” said Wanyonyi to a cheering crowd of supporters, elders, and local leaders. His declaration ends months of speculation about his political future after serving three consecutive terms as MP for Westlands in Nairobi.
Wanyonyi, who hails from Bungoma County, said his decision to run for governor stems from a deep-rooted commitment to uplift his home region. He highlighted key areas of focus in his vision, including improving healthcare access, empowering youth and women, revitalizing agriculture, and ending what he described as a culture of impunity and mismanagement at the county level.
“Bungoma has the potential to become a model county — but only if we embrace leadership that is people-centered and accountable. I want to bring back dignity to service, and I believe the time is now,” Wanyonyi stated.
Known for his legislative track record and strong advocacy for persons with disabilities, Wanyonyi’s candidacy is expected to reshape the political landscape of Bungoma. Political analysts suggest he may appeal to both urban and rural voters, especially with his experience in Nairobi and his deep roots in Western Kenya.
He also used the platform to call for peaceful campaigns and issue-based politics, urging Bungoma residents to reject divisive rhetoric.
“I don’t come with empty promises. I come with experience, integrity, and results. Bungoma deserves better — and together, we will fly higher,” he concluded.
Wanyonyi is expected to formally unveil his campaign manifesto in the coming months as he builds a countywide coalition of supporters under his “Bungoma Take Off” campaign.
