Phelister Abdalla Condemns Brutal Murder of Nakuru Sex Worker

Phelister Abdalla, the Coordinator of the Kenya Sex Workers Alliance, has strongly condemned the brutal murder of a sex worker in Nakuru, calling it a barbaric act that highlights the persistent violence and discrimination faced by sex workers across the country.

Abdalla described the killing as heartbreaking and unacceptable, emphasizing that no one deserves to lose their life simply because of their occupation. “This is a cruel reminder of the deep-seated stigma and dangers sex workers face daily. It is not just a tragedy for one family, but a wake-up call for the entire nation to protect the rights and dignity of every person,” she said.

She called on law enforcement agencies to swiftly investigate the murder, apprehend those responsible, and ensure justice is served without delay. Abdalla further urged the government to implement stronger policies that guarantee the safety and protection of sex workers, who often operate under unsafe conditions due to systemic neglect and social prejudice.

The Kenya Sex Workers Alliance pledged to stand with the victim’s family and colleagues, offering support, counseling, and advocacy to push for accountability. “We are not going to remain silent as sex workers continue to be targets of violence. Every life matters, and every person deserves respect, safety, and justice,” Abdalla stated.

She appealed to the public to stand against gender-based violence and discrimination, emphasizing that protecting vulnerable groups is key to building a just and inclusive society.
