NTSA Urges Vehicle Owners to Update Records
By Victor Maiyo
The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) is calling on all motor vehicle and motorcycle owners to update their vehicle records and tax details with the authority.
In a statement on Tuesday, July 29, NTSA Director General George Njao announced that the agency has rolled out a special online tool on its portal to guide owners through the record update process.
To make the update, NTSA says owners will need to write a “duty record update request” letter, include their contact information, and take it to the nearest NTSA office. Once submitted, the authority will stamp the letter as proof it was received.
Owners will also need to bring a copy of their ID, the original logbook, the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) entry document, and a duty payment receipt.
"In its undertaking mandate, the authority has operationalised the duty update module/vehicle records update tool to provide necessary support for all motor vehicle/motorcycle owners, including financial institutions, Government agencies, Insurance companies, dealers, and companies, among others," the notice read.
According to NTSA, once all documents are submitted, the update should be completed within seven working days, after which the owner will be notified to collect the updated records. The process is free of charge, but collection must be done during weekday working hours.
When picking up the documents, individuals must present the stamped request letter and their original ID. For companies or organisations, an authorisation letter from the entity will also be required.
"The Authority aims to undertake the verification process and update the duty/records update in the service portal within 7 working days. The application processing time starts when the requisite documentation is verified and received at the NTSA offices," the authority stated.
After collecting the updated records, vehicle owners must apply for a duplicate logbook via their eCitizen account on the NTSA Service portal. This will require presenting a duty-free logbook and paying Ksh 2,550. The new logbook should be ready within three working days.
"If contacted by an unauthorised person(s) or through an unofficial channel advising that any NTSA service application can be fast-tracked or influenced in any way, please report the matter to the nearest NTSA office or the EACC for further action," NTSA stated.
