National Land Commission (NLC) Chief Executive Officer, CHRP Kabale Tache Arero, has reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to advancing women’s land rights through active participation in the Stand for Her Land (S4HL) Campaign.
Speaking during a government round-table meeting at the Park Inn by Radisson Hotel, Nairobi, Arero emphasized that ensuring equitable access to land for women is both a constitutional and moral imperative. “The National Land Commission recognizes the urgency of protecting women’s land rights. This aligns with the resolutions from the recent 5th Regional Research Conference, which highlighted the need for immediate and sustained action,” she said.
Arero noted that women remain disproportionately disadvantaged in land ownership and tenure security, despite their significant role in agriculture and economic development. She pledged that NLC will continue to work with stakeholders to address these systemic challenges by leveraging its nationwide platform for policy implementation, dispute resolution, and strategic advocacy.
“The S4HL campaign gives us a unique opportunity to scale up collaborative strategies that dismantle barriers to land ownership. Together with our partners, we can drive meaningful reforms that ensure women enjoy secure and equitable rights to land, fostering gender equality and socio-economic progress,” Arero added.
The round-table meeting brought together key government leaders, civil society actors, and development partners, all committed to advancing women’s land rights as a cornerstone of inclusive national development.
Arero underscored the Commission’s readiness to champion legal and institutional reforms aimed at closing the gender gap in land ownership, further committing to transparency and dialogue as key tools for driving this agenda.
“A future where women have equal access to land is a future where communities thrive. The NLC is proud to be part of this transformative journey,” she concluded.
