Kipyegon and Chebet Awarded Ksh5 Million Each for Breaking World Records
The Kenyan government has awarded Ksh5 million each to athletics stars Faith Kipyegon and Beatrice Chebet following their record-breaking performances at the Prefontaine Classic Diamond League in Eugene, USA.
Kipyegon shattered the women's 1,500m world record, while Chebet set a new world mark in the 5,000m race, earning global praise and solidifying Kenya’s dominance in middle and long-distance running.
President William Ruto congratulated the athletes for their historic achievements and reaffirmed the government's commitment to supporting sporting excellence. “Your determination and patriotism have once again put Kenya on the global map. This reward is a token of appreciation from a proud nation,” he said.
The Prefontaine Classic, held annually in Eugene, is one of the most prestigious events on the athletics calendar, and this year's edition saw Kenyan athletes steal the spotlight.
