Kenyans Criticize Gachagua for Mourning Comedian Mr. KK Mwenyewe After Ignoring Him in Life

 

 Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has come under sharp criticism from Kenyans following his condolence message to the family of the late Zachariah Kariuki, popularly known as Mr. KK Mwenyewe, a young content creator renowned for his comic imitations of Gachagua himself.

Through his official Facebook page, Gachagua expressed sadness over the sudden demise of the comedian, describing him as “a content creator per excellence and inspiration to many.”

“I have this morning woken up to the sad demise of Mr. Zachariah Kariuki alias Mr. KK Mwenyewe, a content creator per excellence and inspiration to many. Mr. KK, a young, consistent, and resilient young man, used comedy to communicate simple and creative messages to all Kenyans and spoke to our hearts,” the Deputy President posted.

However, the condolence message did not sit well with many Kenyans, who accused Gachagua of hypocrisy, arguing that he ignored the comedian during his lifetime despite numerous public pleas from Mr. KK to meet him.

“This was the very guy who used to imitate Riggy G so perfectly, but how is it that no one, not even Riggy G himself, looked for him while he was still alive? May Erik Omondi step in and help support his family through an online contribution. They truly need it now more than ever,” wrote Braxton Manazi.

Others echoed similar sentiments. Hon Guruh Buvati said, “You never gave him a chance to meet despite imitating you for a very long time. Men, you are alone until you die.”

Another user, Abubakar KE, lamented, “He wanted to meet you, but you snubbed him, now you are mourning him.”

“Does someone have to die before being recognized? You were supposed to give him flowers while he was alive,” commented Queen Lisa.

Rop Kiptoo also questioned the Deputy President’s priorities, reminding him of how he previously rewarded Ivy Chelimo, the lady who coined the nickname ‘Riggy G,’ with a job in his office.

Mr. KK Mwenyewe had gained national attention through his humorous skits impersonating Gachagua, endearing himself to many Kenyans online. In recent months, however, the comedian had openly expressed struggles with depression and financial difficulties.

As public anger continues to mount, many are now calling on well-wishers, including comedians like Eric Omondi, to step in and support Mr. KK’s grieving family.

Meanwhile, calls for greater support to Kenya’s struggling creative industry have resurfaced, with critics urging leaders to recognize and uplift artists while they are still alive.
