Health Promoters in Mumias West Receive Bicycles to Boost Grassroots Healthcare

Community Health Promoters (CHPs) in Mumias West have received a major boost in their outreach efforts following the distribution of bicycles by the County Government of Kakamega in partnership with Buffalo Bicycles.

Speaking during the distribution exercise, Chief Officer for Public Health Mrs. Rose Muhanda said the initiative is aimed at improving mobility for the CHPs, enabling them to reach more households efficiently during their community engagements. The bicycles will support ongoing initiatives such as the Social Health Authority (SHA) registration drives and the upcoming mass drug administration campaign.

“Our focus is to strengthen healthcare delivery at the grassroots. These bicycles will help the CHPs cover more ground and serve residents more effectively,” said Mrs. Muhanda.

She urged the health promoters to prioritise accurate data collection during routine household visits, noting that such data is critical in shaping health policies and services across the county. “This data will help the county government strategically plan health services for our people, in line with Governor Fernandes Barasa’s agenda of ensuring access to affordable and quality healthcare for all,” she added.

Mr. Peter Wechuli, Buffalo Bicycles Programme Manager for Kakamega, reiterated the organisation’s commitment to supporting the county’s health sector. “We are proud to partner with Kakamega County in empowering health workers with reliable transportation, so they can serve communities without hindrance,” he said.

Director of Public Health Mr. William Olaka and several County Administrators were also present at the event.

The initiative forms part of the county’s broader efforts to improve health service delivery and enhance the capacity of frontline health workers in rural areas.
