Trans‑Nzoia Governor George Natembeya has expressed pride and admiration following the coronation of Ms. Mirel Atieno Ngesa as Miss Earth Kenya 2025. Representing this county, Ms. Atieno’s triumph is being hailed as a significant milestone for youth empowerment and environmental stewardship.

“Today, we celebrate not only a titleholder, but a shining example of our young people’s potential,” said Governor Natembeya. “Mirel’s dedication to sustainable agriculture, through her ‘Rooted with Mirel’ initiative—promoting poultry farming, composting, organic crops, and agroforestry—embodies the spirit of environmental action we champion here in Trans‑Nzoia”

At 26, the newly crowned Miss Earth Kenya has channeled her advocacy into transforming her home into a self‑sustaining environmental hub. She has “begun documenting her journey under the theme ‘rooted with Mirel’ to educate the public and inspire others, especially youths, to embrace sustainable farming as a powerful tool for climate action and food justice” .

Governor Natembeya stated, “Mirel’s achievement illuminates what our youth can accomplish when given the opportunity and support. Her success on the national stage shines a welcome light on Trans‑Nzoia, affirming our county’s place at the forefront of environmental and agricultural innovation.”

He further announced that the county government will collaborate with Ms. Atieno and her team to scale up her agro-ecological practices, aiming to replicate her model across schools and community programs. “This partnership will reinforce our commitment to youth-led climate solutions and empower young innovators across the Rift Valley,” he added.

Trans‑Nzoia residents and Miss Earth enthusiasts have flooded social media with messages of support. Many noted that this is a historic moment—the first time a Trans‑Nzoia delegate has taken the crown, reinforcing local belief in nurturing homegrown talent.
