Procession Held for Fr. Alois Cheruiyot Bett in Eldoret Ahead of Burial

A solemn procession was held today in Eldoret Town to honor the late Fr. Alois Cheruiyot Bett, whose requiem mass was conducted at the Catholic Diocese of Eldoret. The beloved priest, tragically killed by bandits in Kerio Valley, Elgeyo Marakwet on May 22, is set to be laid to rest at his rural home this Tuesday.

Fr. Bett, who had served as a Catholic priest in the Eldoret Diocese for nearly three years after his ordination in November 2022, was returning from a pastoral mission when he was ambushed and fatally shot. His untimely death has left the community mourning the loss of a dedicated spiritual leader.

The procession through Eldoret Town drew clergy, parishioners, friends, and family members who gathered to pay their respects and celebrate the life of a man who had touched many lives through his service and devotion.

The Diocese of Eldoret and local leaders have called for unity and prayers for Fr. Bett’s family during this difficult time as preparations continue for his burial.

Fr. Alois Cheruiyot Bett’s legacy as a committed priest and compassionate leader will remain in the hearts of those he served.
