Orero Boys Leads with Results, Inspires Hope Across the Region
Orero Boys High School, nestled in the serene hills of Rangwe, Homa Bay County, is quietly rewriting the script of academic excellence in Kenya. After posting an impressive mean score of 9.4235 in the 2024 national examinations, the institution is now setting its sights even higher—with a target mean of 10.42 and a renewed focus on all-round student success.
The school’s performance last year saw 498 out of 499 candidates qualify for university admission, representing a 99.80% transition rate—a feat that has drawn admiration from across the region.
> “We are proud of what we’ve achieved, but even more excited about what lies ahead,” said Chief Principal Mr. Dickens Bula, in a phone interview with this newspaper. “Our goal now is to push further, break our own records, and guide more students to achieve A plain grades, which have been elusive in recent years.”
Celebrating Excellence, Inspiring the Future
In early 2025, the school held a colorful internal ceremony to recognize outstanding efforts by students, teachers, and support staff for their contribution to the 2024 results. The event was both celebratory and symbolic—a reflection of the school’s strong internal culture of appreciation and unity.
The school community sees its success not as a stroke of luck, but as the result of strategic planning, early syllabus completion, and a dedicated teaching force committed to walking closely with each student.
> “Our teachers have gone beyond the call of duty, offering remedial classes, personalized mentorship, and academic guidance throughout the year,” said Mr. Bula, who also serves as Chairperson of the Kenya Secondary Schools Heads Association (KESSHA) in Homa Bay County.
Academic Strategy That Works
With 665 candidates preparing for the 2025 exams, Orero Boys has adopted a structured academic model, focusing on targeted revision, continuous assessment, and student wellness. A data-driven approach to performance monitoring allows staff to track progress and intervene where needed.
Heads of departments regularly meet to fine-tune teaching approaches, ensuring every learner receives attention. Peer mentorship, alumni talks, and motivational programs have also become integral to the school's support system.
Beyond the Classroom
Orero Boys is not only known for its grades but also for its strong focus on discipline, leadership, and holistic development. The school has recently expanded its digital infrastructure, established a modern computer lab, and improved its science and research facilities, helping students develop practical skills alongside academic excellence.
Co-curricular achievements—ranging from regional drama competitions to inter-school debates and sports tournaments—continue to enrich the student experience.
A Community-Led Vision
The school’s progress has also been bolstered by strong support from the Board of Management, parents, and alumni. This partnership has helped sustain high standards while encouraging students to remain focused and motivated.
> “We’re not just preparing students for exams—we are nurturing responsible young men who will shape Kenya’s future,” Mr. Bula said.
Looking Ahead
As Orero Boys embarks on its 2025 academic journey, it does so with confidence and clarity of purpose. The dream of crossing the 10.0 mean score mark—and producing more top-performing students—is no longer just a vision, but a structured mission.
From its humble beginnings to becoming a pillar of academic achievement in Nyanza, Orero Boys High School stands as a shining example of what dedication, unity, and strategic focus can achieve.
> “We believe the best is yet to come,” said Mr. Bula. “And with the continued support of our teachers, parents, and community, we are ready to make history.”
