Gachagua Accuses Mount Kenya MPs of Being ‘Used’ by President Ruto to Disrupt Public Engagements

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has openly criticized Members of Parliament from the Mount Kenya region, accusing them of being manipulated by President William Ruto to undermine his own public engagements.

Speaking during a church service at AIPCA Gatumbi Church in Lari Constituency, Kiambu County on Sunday, Gachagua alleged that MPs allied with President Ruto receive funds to organize youth-led disruptions during his church services and other public meetings.

“How foolish are you, members of parliament from this region? William Ruto is laughing at you. The people from his community, he takes them to the military, to the police, to NYS, to KRA,” Gachagua said, suggesting the president favors security and revenue agencies over political representation.

He further accused the MPs of remaining silent as the region faces marginalization, especially in terms of job opportunities. Gachagua claimed that the youth from Mount Kenya are being paid small sums and given alcohol to incite violence against their own leaders during such disruptions.

“When they are done throwing stones, they take the money and drink alcohol,” he stated.

Gachagua also lambasted the MPs for following the president’s directives blindly without offering any opposition.

“When the history of this community is written, the members of parliament from this community will have a whole chapter of the most foolish leaders ever elected in the Mount Kenya region,” he said. “You are an embarrassment to the people of this region. I cannot fathom just how stupid a leader can be. It is very embarrassing to us as a community.”

On another front, Gachagua condemned President Ruto’s recent apology to Gen Zs over security incidents.

“How do you issue an apology about the loss of lives in such a casual manner? People were abducted, and there is no ‘if’ it happened. If you are serious about making an apology to the people who were abducted and those who were killed, you should invite the parents of those who were abducted to offer a proper apology and compensation,” he asserted.

“President Ruto asked for forgiveness at the National Prayer Breakfast. That was a good start. But we must go further—there should be closure. Families who lost their sons and daughters must be compensated. It’s the only way to heal and move forward,” Gachagua added.
