Deputy President Kithure Kindiki Responds to Kalonzo's Remarks: "Respect is a Two-Way Street"
Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has responded to recent comments made by former Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, who declared that he would not work with him politically. In a public address today, Kindiki expressed his understanding of Kalonzo's position but also made it clear that he would not engage in public quarrels with those he respects, including his political mentor and elder brother.
Kindiki’s remarks come after Kalonzo’s statement earlier this week, where he appeared to rule out any future political collaboration with the Deputy President. In his response, Kindiki acknowledged Kalonzo’s stance but emphasized that respect must always be mutual.
Kindiki's Response: "I Will Not Duel Publicly"
"I hear my big brother Kalonzo has said he doesn’t wish to work with me politically. That is fine with me. For the unkind things he has said about me, I won’t answer him back publicly, not because I can’t, but because I never do public duels with people I respect," Kindiki said, during an address to a gathering in Nairobi.
While Kindiki refrained from directly retaliating against Kalonzo’s comments, he made it clear that he would not tolerate ongoing falsehoods if they continued without provocation.
"Nevertheless, if he continues with his falsehoods unprovoked, I will happily tackle him head-on. Respect is a two-way street," Kindiki added, signaling that he would not shy away from defending himself if necessary.
"Kalonzo Will Remain the Big Brother I’ve Known for Decades"
Kindiki reiterated that despite their political differences, Kalonzo would always remain the "good big brother" he has known and respected for decades. The Deputy President’s comments reflected a desire for unity, at least on a personal level, even as political differences continue to shape the country’s political landscape.
"For now, Kalonzo will remain the good big brother I have known for decades. I hold no ill will, but respect must be reciprocal," Kindiki said, further emphasizing his commitment to civility and mutual respect, even amid political rivalry.
Focus on Government’s Development Agenda
The Deputy President went on to assert that the government’s focus on development would not be derailed by political disagreements. He reaffirmed the administration's dedication to serving all Kenyans, irrespective of who is working with whom for political gain.
"The Government’s development agenda for all the people of this nation will continue undeterred, irrespective of who is working with who for whatever objective," Kindiki stressed, highlighting that the country’s progress should take precedence over political squabbles.
His comments come at a time when political tension between various factions within the government, as well as in the opposition, continue to intensify. Despite the turbulence, Kindiki remains focused on ensuring that the government's agenda moves forward, particularly in key sectors such as infrastructure, education, and healthcare.
A Message of Unity Amidst Political Differences
Kindiki’s message serves as a reminder that while political alliances may shift, the primary goal for the government should be to focus on the people it serves. His remarks also suggest a willingness to leave the door open for future reconciliation with Kalonzo, should the political tides shift in their favor.
