Two suspects have been arrested in Kavuvwani village, Mwingi Central Sub-County, following the recovery of three pieces of elephant tusks from their residence.
Mwendwa Ngura Ngavu, 63, and Serah Norah Mwendwa, 56, were apprehended by a joint team of Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) officers and police following a tip-off from local informants. Acting swiftly on the intelligence, the team conducted a raid on the suspects' home, where the illicit wildlife trophies were discovered during a thorough search.
Authorities have confirmed that the elephant tusks were seized and are now being held as exhibits. The suspects are currently detained at Mwingi Police Station, where they are undergoing processing ahead of their arraignment in court.
"This operation underscores our commitment to protecting Kenya’s endangered wildlife and bringing traffickers to justice," a KWS official said.
Illegal possession and trafficking of wildlife products is a serious offense under Kenyan law, punishable by heavy fines and lengthy prison terms.
