President William Ruto today officially launched the construction of the Narok International Airport, a transformative infrastructure project aimed at enhancing tourism, promoting conservation, and boosting the regional economy.
Speaking during the groundbreaking ceremony in Narok County, President Ruto emphasized the strategic importance of the new airport in improving access and connectivity to the world-famous Maasai Mara Game Reserve—one of Africa’s most iconic safari destinations.
“The Narok International Airport will open up this region to the world, making it easier and faster for tourists to access the Maasai Mara,” President Ruto said. “This project is not just about travel—it is about jobs, conservation, and opportunity.”
Set to be completed within 15 months, the airport is expected to significantly reduce the number of aircraft landings and take-offs directly within the Maasai Mara reserve. This shift will support environmental conservation efforts by minimizing disturbances to wildlife and preserving the ecosystem.
In addition to supporting tourism and conservation, the President highlighted the project’s potential to create employment for local communities and generate increased foreign exchange earnings through higher tourist arrivals.
“We are committed to building infrastructure that powers our economy, protects our heritage, and improves the lives of our people,” Ruto added.
The Narok International Airport is part of the government’s broader strategy to strengthen the tourism sector, expand regional infrastructure, and position Kenya as a premier global travel destination.
