Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya has paid glowing tribute to Kenyan workers in a powerful Labour Day message, describing them as the “greatest of all time” and the true engine behind the country’s progress.
Speaking during county-led Labour Day celebrations at Kenyatta Stadium in Kitale, Natembeya said that the dedication of workers in all sectors—from farms and factories to schools and hospitals—deserves recognition beyond just one day of the year.
“Today, we celebrate the men and women who work tirelessly to contribute to our economy,” the governor said. “You are the greatest of all time—our unsung heroes and heroines.”
Natembeya praised workers for their resilience in the face of economic challenges, high cost of living, and shifting job markets. He called on employers, both public and private, to ensure fair treatment, dignified working conditions, and decent wages for all.
“As a country, we cannot speak of development without acknowledging the backbone of our economy—our workers. We must invest in them, protect them, and uplift them,” he stated.
The governor used the opportunity to highlight Trans Nzoia County’s efforts to promote job creation, improve the working environment for county staff, and support the informal sector. He also reaffirmed his commitment to social protection programs targeting casual laborers and low-income earners.
“From our farmers in Cherangany to our boda boda operators in Kiminini, every hand that tills the land or moves goods and people is a hand that builds this nation,” Natembeya said.
The celebrations were attended by local union leaders, county workers, and community groups, with several labour representatives calling for increased government action on delayed payments and worker safety.
Governor Natembeya concluded his remarks with a call for national unity in honouring Kenyan workers, reminding the crowd that dignity in labour is the cornerstone of justice and prosperity.
“Let us never forget: Kenya moves because you do. And for that, we salute you.”
