Over 3,000 women from across Marsabit County converged today for a transformative Women Empowerment Forum hosted by the County Woman Representative, Hon. Naomi Waqo. The high-impact event, held under the banner of economic inclusion and social justice, aimed to uplift vulnerable women and widows through access to enterprise support and awareness of their rights.

The forum served as a platform to promote women’s economic empowerment, expand access to government programs, and foster community solidarity. Participants were equipped with knowledge and tools necessary for financial independence, marking a significant step toward inclusive development.

“We are creating pathways to financial independence and sustainable livelihoods for women across the county,” said Hon. Naomi Waqo. “Empowering women is not only empowering families, but strengthening entire communities and driving national development. I remain committed to ensuring no woman is left behind.”

The event drew the participation of prominent national and local leaders, including Madam Harriet Chigai, the Presidential Advisor on Women’s Rights; Hon. Lady Justice Dorah Chepkwony; the County Secretary representing the Governor; the Area MP for Saku Sub-county; Members of Parliament; County Executive Committee Members (CECs); Members of County Assembly (MCAs); the County Commissioner; and representatives from the National Government Affirmative Action Fund (NGAAF) and the Uwezo Fund.

A key highlight of the forum was the distribution of essential business tools ranging from salon kits and posho mills to sewing machines, tents, plastic chairs, umbrellas, and coolers. These items are expected to boost micro-enterprises and promote self-reliance among beneficiaries.

The Women Empowerment Forum underscores the growing momentum for gender equity in Marsabit and sets the stage for continued efforts to uplift and include women in all aspects of Kenya’s development agenda.
