Irungu Nyakera Announces Historic Reclamation of Deputy President Gachagua’s Office Following Court Ruling

In a bold move signaling a major political statement, former Kenya International Convention Centre (KICC) Board Chairman, Irungu Nyakera, today announced plans for a nationwide procession to reclaim the rightful position of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua following a recent ruling by the Court of Appeal. Nyakera emphasized that the ruling reaffirmed Gachagua’s constitutional right to hold office, following his democratic election on August 8, 2022.

Speaking to the press, Nyakera condemned the previous actions that led to the Deputy President’s removal from office, describing them as a direct subversion of the sovereign will of the Kenyan people. He said the Court of Appeal’s decision had finally righted a wrong, paving the way for the return of Gachagua to his rightful place within the government.

"H.E. Rigathi Gachagua was duly and democratically elected by the people of Kenya. His removal was an attack on the will of the citizens who overwhelmingly voted for him," Nyakera stated. "Today, we stand at the threshold of a historic moment to correct that injustice and reaffirm our commitment to the Constitution."

The former KICC Chairman announced that a press conference would be held at Chester House tomorrow, followed by a peaceful procession that will proceed to Deputy President Gachagua’s residence in Karen. Nyakera emphasized that the event was not just a political protest, but a constitutional action to restore justice and preserve democratic order.

“This is not just about politics; it’s about upholding the constitutional rights of the Deputy President and restoring the integrity of our democratic institutions," he added. "We are making a stand for the future of Kenya, for the people, and for justice."

Nyakera also revealed that citizens from across the capital and beyond are invited to join the procession, with multiple pick-up points across Nairobi and neighboring areas. The confirmed pick-up points for the public to gather include:

  • Kayole

  • Dandora

  • Muthurwa

  • Kawangware

  • Githurai

  • Pumwani

  • Mwiki

  • Utawala

  • Ngong

"Tomorrow, we will witness a peaceful but powerful expression of democracy in action," Nyakera said. "We invite civil society, media, international observers, and all citizens to join us in this momentous occasion. This is a call for justice, a reminder that the people's will cannot be ignored."

The procession is expected to be conducted in full compliance with all public safety regulations, and Nyakera reassured Kenyans that the demonstration would be peaceful, focused on the legal restoration of the Deputy President’s position.

"We are united in our belief that this movement is about protecting Kenya's democracy, ensuring that the sovereign will of the people is respected," Nyakera concluded. "This is not about one individual, but about protecting the rule of law and our constitutional rights."

As the date for the press conference and procession approaches, the nation’s attention is likely to be fixed on the developments surrounding this bold political action. With Nyakera at the forefront, the event promises to be a significant chapter in the ongoing discourse about governance, justice, and democratic principles in Kenya.
