Gladys Wanga Demands Justice for Ong'ondo Were, Warns Against UDA Chants in ODM Zones

Homa Bay Governor and ODM National Chairperson Gladys Wanga has issued a strong statement demanding answers over the killing of Ong'ondo Were, a member of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), while warning political rivals against inciting tension in ODM strongholds.

Speaking at a charged public forum, Wanga condemned the murder, insisting that the ODM leadership and supporters deserve transparency and justice.

"We must be told who killed Ong'ondo Were, why, and for what reason," she declared. "We have said we are working together, but we did not sign up to assassination of our members. So if somebody else killed Were, tell us who."

Wanga’s remarks reflect growing frustration and tension within the ODM camp over the lack of progress in investigations surrounding Were’s death. The late politician was a known loyalist of the party and his death has sparked speculation and unease among supporters.

Wanga also issued a stern political warning, underscoring ODM's dominance in the region and rejecting what she termed as disrespectful conduct by rival party supporters.

"As the national chairperson of the ODM party, I also want to make it very clear: this is Homa Bay County and the entire region is an ODM zone," she stated. "The next time I see people shouting UDA where my party leader Raila is seated — we will not agree, we will not accept. It will not happen."

Her statement comes amid increasing political activity as the country edges closer to the 2027 general elections, with parties jostling for influence in traditional strongholds.

Authorities have yet to issue an update on the investigation into Ong'ondo Were’s death.
