In a major breakthrough in the ongoing investigation into the assassination of Kasipul MP Hon. Charles Ong’ondo Were, detectives have arrested another suspect believed to have played a critical role in the crime.
Amos Barasa Kasili was apprehended in an intelligence-led operation in the Kibera Darajani area. Authorities have linked Barasa to the fatal shooting that occurred on April 30, 2025, through forensic evidence and witness testimonies that placed him at the scene of the crime.
According to investigators, Barasa served as the motorcycle rider who ferried the assailants both before and after the shooting. The motorcycle, a Bajaj Boxer with registration number KMFZ 413W, was recovered in his possession at the time of arrest. CCTV footage from near Parliament shows a motorcycle matching this description trailing Hon. Were’s vehicle shortly before the attack.
Detectives revealed that Barasa is a habitual criminal known to operate under the guise of a Boda Boda operator. Further investigation showed he had previous run-ins with the law and had served time at Industrial Area Prison, where he is believed to have met some of the other suspects connected to the shooting.
During interrogation, Barasa reportedly confessed to his involvement, stating that he had been hired by the main suspects and paid Ksh. 50,000 for his role in the operation. His arrest marks a significant step in unravelling the network behind the orchestrated killing of the legislator.
Police say Barasa is currently being processed for arraignment as investigations continue. Authorities have reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring that all individuals involved in the murder of Hon. Were are brought to justice.
