Uasin Gishu Governor Flags Off Ksh 21 Million Medical Supplies to Boost Healthcare Delivery

Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii today flagged off a consignment of essential medicines and medical supplies worth Ksh 21 million, a major boost aimed at strengthening healthcare delivery across the county.

The medical supplies, sourced from the Kenya Medical Supplies Authority (KEMSA), will be distributed to 138 public health facilities, including dispensaries, health centres, and county hospitals, in a move the governor termed as “a step forward in ensuring access to quality and affordable healthcare for all residents.”

Speaking during the flag-off ceremony held at the county headquarters, Governor Bii reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to improving health systems and ensuring that no facility goes without essential medicines.

“We are determined to strengthen healthcare delivery and improve access to quality care for our people. This consignment will go a long way in ensuring that essential drugs and medical commodities are available at all times,” he said.

Governor Bii urged KEMSA to ensure timely and consistent supply of medical commodities to avoid stockouts, which he said had previously disrupted services and negatively impacted patient care.

“To ensure continuous service delivery, I urge KEMSA to prioritize timely and consistent supply to avoid disruptions in our health system,” he added.

The supplies are expected to benefit thousands of patients across the county, particularly in rural and underserved areas, where access to essential drugs is often limited.

The flag-off comes at a time when counties are under increasing pressure to deliver on the promise of Universal Health Coverage (UHC), with access to essential medicines being a key component.

Healthcare workers and facility managers in attendance welcomed the initiative, noting that the supplies will help ease pressure on the system and allow for better patient care.

This latest consignment forms part of Uasin Gishu County’s broader health sector reforms, which include upgrading health infrastructure, investing in diagnostic equipment, and expanding community health services.
