Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya on Sunday evening paid a visit to celebrated musician Wanyonyi Omukoyi at his residence in Makhonge, Chwele, Bungoma County, where the legendary artist has been recuperating from an undisclosed illness.
Governor Natembeya, who described Wanyonyi as a "cultural pillar and voice of the people," offered words of encouragement and support during his visit, reflecting on the musician's immense contribution to the region's cultural and artistic heritage.
“It was an honour to spend time with my longtime friend and a true son of this soil, Wanyonyi Omukoyi. His music has inspired generations and brought joy to countless households across Western Kenya,” said the Governor. “May God grant him a swift and complete recovery during this trial period. Amen.”
Wanyonyi Omukoyi is known for his deep-rooted traditional sounds and socially conscious lyrics that have earned him acclaim far beyond Bungoma County. His illness has drawn concern from fans and fellow artists alike, with many praying for his recovery.
Governor Natembeya also urged local leaders and the community at large to rally around artists like Wanyonyi, recognizing their role in shaping identity and unity through music.
“This is a time for us to remember the power of art and those who carry our stories through song. Let us stand by Wanyonyi and his family with love, prayers, and support,” he added.
The Governor’s visit was welcomed by family members and neighbors, who expressed gratitude for his concern and solidarity.
