By John Kariuki

The National Land Commission (NLC), led by Chief Executive Officer CHRP Kabale Tache Arero, today engaged with the Senate Finance and Budget Committee, chaired by Senator Ali Roba, to present its recommendations for the 2025/2026 Budget Policy Statement. The discussions were aimed at securing the necessary funding to enhance land administration, adjudication, and sustainable land management across the country.

During the presentation, the Commission outlined its budgetary needs, emphasizing the importance of adequate financial resources to support its core functions, including land dispute resolution, tenure security, land reforms, and public land protection. The NLC stressed that without sufficient funding, its ability to effectively implement these mandates would be significantly constrained.

A key focus of the discussions was the status of capital projects under the Commission’s jurisdiction. Updates were provided on the progress of these projects, which are vital to improving land governance, promoting transparency, and ensuring equitable access to land resources. The Commission also highlighted some of the challenges hindering their full implementation, including budgetary constraints and regulatory hurdles, while proposing viable solutions to address them.

The Senate Finance and Budget Committee acknowledged the critical role of the National Land Commission in Kenya’s development and committed to reviewing the recommendations to ensure efficient resource allocation. The engagement underscored the importance of a well-funded NLC in driving key land reforms and fostering responsible land use policies that contribute to the nation’s economic growth.

The National Land Commission reaffirmed its dedication to ensuring transparent, efficient, and sustainable land administration. Through strategic collaboration with key stakeholders, the Commission remains focused on delivering reforms that enhance land governance, protect public land, and support economic development for present and future generations.
