In a landmark move to boost digital transformation and improve access to ICT education, the County Government of Nandi has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Computer Aid International. The partnership aims to equip vocational training institutions across the county with digital devices and provide essential digital skills to both teachers and students, thereby preparing them for future employment and self-employment opportunities.
The initiative will initially be piloted in three Vocational Training Centers (VTCs)—Kiropket, Cheptarit, and ACK Sang'alo—before being expanded to all VTCs in the county. Computer Aid International has already delivered the necessary equipment for the pilot phase, marking a significant step in integrating ICT into vocational education and training across Nandi.
Governor Stephen Sang, who presided over the signing ceremony, hailed the partnership as a transformative step for the county. "This MoU is a testament to our commitment to empowering our youth with the skills and tools they need to succeed in the 21st century. By integrating ICT into our vocational training programs, we are not only preparing our students for employment but also enabling them to create their own opportunities through self-employment," Governor Sang said.
The collaboration is aimed at addressing the digital divide by providing students and teachers with access to modern technology and enhancing digital literacy. Through this initiative, Nandi County hopes to create a competitive, tech-savvy workforce capable of thriving in an increasingly digital economy.
Beyond the direct benefits to students and teachers, the program will also extend its reach to the broader community. Youth and members of the public will have access to digital skills training programs designed to enhance employability and foster career growth. The project also aims to promote ICT awareness and advocacy at both the county and national levels to ensure the sustainability of the digital transformation efforts.
As part of the partnership, Computer Aid International will facilitate International Computer Driving License (ICDL) certification for all participants. This globally recognized certification will improve digital proficiency and significantly enhance the employability of graduates, both locally and internationally.
The project will not only improve the digital skills of students but will also enable them to take advantage of self-employment opportunities in the digital economy. The provision of digital devices, coupled with certified training, ensures that beneficiaries are well-equipped to navigate the digital landscape and meet the demands of modern workplaces.
The partnership between the Nandi County Government and Computer Aid International is seen as a model of public-private collaboration aimed at driving technological advancement and bridging the digital divide. Governor Sang emphasized the importance of such partnerships in achieving sustainable development. "This initiative is a clear demonstration of what can be achieved when the public and private sectors work together. We are confident that this partnership will have a lasting impact on our community and set a precedent for other counties to follow," he added.
The success of this initiative will serve as a benchmark for other regions looking to improve digital access and ICT education in vocational training. The County Government of Nandi and Computer Aid International have laid a strong foundation for a future where digital skills are accessible to all, empowering individuals and communities to thrive in a rapidly evolving digital world.
This collaboration is not just about providing technology—it's about creating opportunities, fostering innovation, and building a brighter future for the people of Nandi County.
