Moses Kebenei, the MCA for Simat/Kapseret, has addressed recent comments made by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, urging him to refocus on constructive politics and not to disrupt the ongoing efforts towards national unity and progress. Kebenei emphasized that, while Gachagua is free to express his views, his recent criticism of the affordable housing project, which he had previously supported, is misleading Kenyans.
In his statement, Kebenei noted that politics is a game of numbers, and leaders should work together for the benefit of the people rather than resort to divisive rhetoric. "It's his democratic right to speak as he wishes, but when he was in government, he was at the forefront of supporting affordable housing. Now, after his impeachment, he is trying to confuse Kenyans into believing that the affordable housing project is not a good initiative. Gachagua should relax," Kebenei said.
The MCA further stated that the political landscape in Kenya is highly competitive and strategic, with every politician needing to re-strategize and carefully consider their plans. Kebenei praised President William Ruto for his political acumen, noting that Ruto has successfully navigated various political landscapes, from the leadership of former Presidents Daniel arap Moi, Mwai Kibaki, and Uhuru Kenyatta to the political maneuvers of opposition leader Raila Odinga.
“President Ruto is a seasoned politician. He understands the intricacies of Kenya's politics, and his calculations make it very difficult for anyone to defeat him. He should remain neutral, avoid tribalism, and continue to unite Kenyans. We, as leaders, should also welcome him into Eldoret and allow him to freely campaign across the country without restrictions,” Kebenei stated.
Kebenei’s comments come amid ongoing political dynamics in the country, with various leaders positioning themselves for future elections. The MCA called for leaders to focus on national issues, set aside personal differences, and put the people’s needs first. "Politics should be about serving the people, not creating division. We should be working for the betterment of our country, and it is important for everyone, including Gachagua, to recognize this," he concluded.
As Kenya prepares for future elections, Kebenei’s message resonated with many who believe that political leaders must rise above tribal divisions and focus on nation-building, ensuring that every citizen’s voice is heard and respected.
