Why Leah Sankaire’s Second-Term Bid Is Framed Around Unopposed Leadership in Kajiado
Kajiado Woman Representative Leah Sankaire, popularly associated with the title Mama County 034, is at the centre of growing political conversations about her leadership journey and the prospect of seeking a second term in the 2027 General Election.
The phrase “Why it is two-term unopposed”, accompanied by the rallying call “Ildamat… Mama County 034!”, captures the confidence and political expectations surrounding her leadership as attention gradually shifts towards the next electoral contest.
For Sankaire, the second-term conversation provides an opportunity to reflect on her record, the issues she has championed and the expectations of the people of Kajiado County.
The expression reflects a political narrative built around continuity, representation and the desire to see ongoing development programmes sustained. However, whether she will eventually face no challenger remains a matter for the electoral process, with the 2027 elections still ahead.
### A record centred on women and community empowerment
One of the areas associated with Sankaire's parliamentary work is the economic empowerment of women, young people and vulnerable groups.
Through the National Government Affirmative Action Fund (NGAAF), her office has supported community-based initiatives aimed at helping groups establish income-generating activities and improve their livelihoods.
In October 2026, she presided over an empowerment exercise in Olomayiana village, Kajiado Central, where women, youth and persons living with disabilities benefited from financial support and business equipment.
The exercise saw three groups receive cheques of KSh150,000 each, while three other groups received 100-seater tents and 100 chairs each to support their events businesses. Four additional groups received KSh110,000 each as capital support.

Such interventions form part of the wider conversation about the role of the Woman Representative in addressing economic challenges facing communities, particularly women seeking financial independence.
In Magadi Ward, Kajiado West, Sankaire also supported 15 community groups with 150 goats, alongside tents and chairs for other groups to strengthen their income-generating activities.

### Education and the welfare of the girl child
Education has also featured prominently in the activities of her office.
In January 2026, Sankaire launched a KSh5.96 million NGAAF bursary programme targeting 362 students from across Kajiado County.
The allocation covered students in secondary schools, universities and other institutions of higher learning, with beneficiaries receiving financial assistance to ease the burden of education costs on their families.

Her office has additionally undertaken interventions aimed at improving menstrual hygiene and keeping girls in school.
In February 2026, she launched a countywide sanitary towel distribution programme targeting girls in public comprehensive schools, from Grade Four to Grade Nine.
The initiative was designed to address challenges associated with menstrual hygiene, which can contribute to absenteeism and affect the dignity of school-going girls.

These programmes have placed education access, girls' welfare and support for vulnerable learners among the issues through which her parliamentary work can be assessed.
### Healthcare and maternal services
Healthcare infrastructure is another area in which Sankaire has pursued partnerships to address community needs.
One of the projects associated with her office is the proposed modern maternity complex at Olooseos Dispensary in Keekonyokie Ward, Kajiado West.
The project received approval following engagements with the Safaricom M-Pesa Foundation, with the proposed facility expected to include maternity, postnatal, antenatal, laboratory and newborn care services, among other specialised facilities.
The project is particularly significant to the area because of the need to improve access to maternal and newborn healthcare services.

### A leadership journey beyond Parliament
Sankaire's political journey also provides context to her current position.
Before becoming Kajiado Woman Representative, she served in the first Kajiado County Assembly as a nominated Member of County Assembly between 2013 and 2017.
She participated in the Budget and Appropriations Committee and the Finance and Economic Committee, and chaired the Public Investments and Accounts Committee.
She later served as Chief of Staff and Chief of Protocol in the Kajiado County Government before joining the National Assembly.
Her academic background includes a degree in Project Planning and Management from the University of Nairobi.

In March 2023, she was elected the fifth Chairperson of the Kenya Women Parliamentary Association (KEWOPA), a national caucus bringing together women Members of Parliament from both the National Assembly and Senate.
The association advocates for gender equality, democracy and the protection of women's rights.

Her national leadership position has provided another platform through which she participates in discussions affecting women legislators and the broader gender agenda.
### The two-term conversation
As the 2027 General Election approaches, the phrase Two-Term Unopposed has become a statement of political confidence among those identifying with Sankaire's leadership.
The Ildamat rallying call and the title Mama County 034 reflect the public identity associated with her political brand.
Nevertheless, a second-term mandate is ultimately determined by voters, and the prospect of an unopposed contest cannot be established through political slogans alone.
For Sankaire, the coming months provide an opportunity to demonstrate the progress of her programmes, account for public resources, address outstanding development concerns and communicate her priorities for another parliamentary term.
The expectations surrounding a second term will inevitably include sustained support for education, women's economic empowerment, healthcare, youth opportunities and the protection of vulnerable members of society.
Ultimately, the political conversation in Kajiado will be shaped not only by campaign declarations but also by the experiences of residents across the county's five constituencies.
For now, the message from her supporters is unmistakable:
Ildamat...! Mama County 034!
As the 2027 political season gathers momentum, Sankaire's leadership journey will remain part of the wider conversation about women's representation, accountability and continuity in Kajiado County.
Two terms, one political ambition and a county whose verdict will be delivered by its voters.
Editorial note: The unopposed description is presented as a political aspiration, not an established electoral outcome.
