Wetang’ula, Kingi Lead MPs and Senators in Visiting Recuperating ODM Leader Oburu Oginga
National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula and his Senate counterpart Amason Kingi have led a delegation of legislators in visiting ODM Party Leader and Siaya Senator Dr Oburu Oginga at his Nairobi residence, where he is recuperating following his discharge from hospital.
The two Speakers were accompanied by Members of Parliament and Senators who went to check on the veteran politician and wish him a speedy recovery.
Speaking during the visit, Wetang’ula said the delegation was encouraged by Dr Oburu’s remarkable progress and expressed confidence that he would make a full recovery.
He urged the ODM leader to prioritise his health and avoid rushing back into political engagements before fully recovering.
“Prioritise your health and avoid rushing back into political engagements before making a full recovery,” Wetang’ula advised, while commending him for his courage and determination in overcoming his medical challenges.
In his response, Dr Oburu expressed gratitude to the two Speakers and the legislators for taking time out of their busy schedules to visit him, describing the gesture as touching and encouraging.
“I have no words to explain my feelings after the Speakers of both Houses and fellow legislators created time to come and check on me,” he said.
The Siaya Senator, however, maintained his trademark humour and political spirit, entertaining his visitors with jokes while assuring his supporters that he remained determined to return to active politics once he completes his recovery.
He also addressed widespread false reports circulated on social media during his hospitalisation, which had claimed that he had died, saying such reports only strengthened his determination to fight his illness.
“Those who wrote me off while I was in hospital by declaring me dead only made me stronger and more determined to fight my sickness. Here I am, recovering and growing stronger by the day,” he said.
Dr Oburu attributed his survival to God's grace, saying his illness had temporarily slowed down his political activities but had not diminished his determination to resume his leadership responsibilities.
“The sickness slowed my political activities. Very soon, I will be back, roaring in the best way I know how,” he declared.
The veteran politician further revealed that he missed participating in parliamentary debates and engaging in national political discussions, urging his supporters to continue praying for him as he focuses on regaining his strength.
“I miss being on the floor of the House debating and roaring in the political arena. I urge my supporters to pray for me and be patient because soon I will be back,” he added.
On his part, Senate Speaker Amason Kingi said the Senate fraternity missed Dr Oburu's contributions to parliamentary proceedings, debates and national political discourse.
Kingi expressed hope that the Siaya Senator would recover fully and return to his parliamentary duties, noting that his experience and political guidance remained valuable to the country.
“As the Senate, we miss your contributions to proceedings and debates, as well as your guidance in national politics. We pray that you get better and resume your political duties as soon as possible,” Kingi said.
Among the Senators who accompanied the two Speakers were Senate Chief Whip David Wakoli, Senate Minority Leader Stewart Madzayo, William Kisang and Daniel Maanzo.
Other legislators in the delegation included National Assembly Minority Whip Millie Odhiambo, Parliamentary Commissioner Mishi Mboko and Eve Obara.
The visit comes as Dr Oburu continues his recovery, with the ODM leader expressing optimism about returning to active parliamentary and political engagements in the near future.
